Talented midcourter Kate Heffernan continues to leave an impressive imprint on the netball court and returns for a sixth season with the Steel in 2024. Making a successful switch to centre after largely playing wing defence for the Steel, Heffernan impressed enough during 2021 to earn selection in the Silver Ferns squad for the first time and has continued to push to new heights, being elevated to the national team vice-captaincy role in 2024. Called up as an injury replacement for the Steel in 2018, the midourter hasn’t looked back, going on to make her Silver Ferns debut in 2022 and producing a standout international season. Standing at 1.81m, Heffernan is tall for a midcourter, her long reach and athletic ability proving a disruptive influence as she has gone on to become an accomplished performer across two midcourt positions. She is the daughter of former Silver Fern Annette Heffernan. She will once again play alongside her identical twin sister, Georgia.
