Leaving the comforts of home, exciting young defender Carys Stythe embraced the prospect of a new challenge with the Steel last season and is back for another stint in 2026. After two seasons with the Mystics, it took the rangy defender little time to find her feet at the elite level. Making her on-court debut from training partner status in 2022, the 2021 NZ Secondary School Player of the Year immediately impressed with a maturity beyond her years in subsequent outings and has continued to build on that prowess over the last three seasons. Tall and athletic, the in-circle defender had a fairytale start to her elite career with numerous on-court appearances where her footwork, speed and ball-hunting ability were standouts in one so young. With a bright future beckoning, the 1.92m Stythe continues to further prosper her career in the south, through the experience and challenges of a new team environment. Stythe made her Silver Ferns debut in 2025 after previously being a member of the New Zealand A team and the Silver Ferns Development squad.
