Leaving the comforts of home and a title-winning team behind, exciting young defender Carys Stythe is embracing the prospect of a new challenge with the Steel in 2025. After two seasons with the Mystics, it took the rangy defender little time to find her feet at the elite level. Making her on-court debut from training partner status in 2022, the 2021 NZ Secondary School Player of the Year immediately impressed with a maturity beyond her years in subsequent outings and has continued to build on that prowess over the last two seasons. Tall and athletic, the in-circle defender had a fairytale start to her elite career with numerous on-court appearances where her footwork, speed and ball-hunting ability were standouts in one so young. With a bright future beckoning, the 1.92m Stythe will be looking to further prosper her career through the experience and challenges of a new team environment. Stythe is a member of the New Zealand A team as well as the 2024-25 Silver Ferns Development squad.
