Shooter Monica Falkner made an unexpected return to elite level netball last season just months after welcoming her first child and is back with the Stars on a full contract for 2025. Adding cover for an injury-depleted Stars last season, Falkner, despite her limited build-up, played a key hand at times through her general court craft and shooting ability. Able to play both shooting roles, Falkner has long been a player with heaps of quality and promise but has faced a myriad of challenges along the way. Previously playing for the Magic and Stars, Falkner suited up with the Mystics in 2022 looking to reignite her career and then had time out on maternity duties. She had made big strides in 2020 after celebrating her Silver Ferns debut before injury thwarted her progress. A sure shot, strong movement, safe hands and rebounding ability are trademark qualities of the athletic shooter. Selected for her first Silver Ferns squad in 2017-18, Falkner was a member of the World Youth Cup winning NZU21 team in 2017 and was part of the FAST5 Ferns triumphant Fast5 Netball World Series-winning team in 2018.
