Back for the Mystics in 2025, talented defender Michaela Sokolich-Beatson made an eagerly-awaited return to play in 2022 after an injury-ravaged two seasons. In a cruel twist of fate, Sokolich-Beatson ruptured both Achilles tendons in successive years, consigning her to a long stint on the side-lines. Sokolich-Beatson was first chosen for the Mystics in 2016 and is back for a 10th year in 2025, after re-establishing her impressive credentials and all-round playing standards over the past couple of years while helping the Mystics secure back-to-back titles. An outstanding athlete, Sokolich-Beatson is a tireless and effective defender on both wings, has a devastating turn of speed and a nose for intercept opportunities. A strong leader which first caught attention when she captained the triumphant NZU21 team to the World Youth Cup title in 2017, Sokolich-Beatson made her debut for the Silver Ferns in 2018 and was selected in the Silver Ferns team for the 2024 Nations Cup after a five-year international absence. She is currently in the NZ A squad, Silver Ferns Development squad and has been a member of the silver medal-winning FAST5 Ferns at the last two Fast5 Netball World Series (2023 and 2024).
