Back for the Mystics in 2023, talented defender Michaela Sokolich-Beatson made an eagerly-awaited and successful return to play last season after an injury-ravaged two seasons. In a cruel twist of fate, Sokolich-Beatson ruptured both Achilles tendons in successive years, consigning her to a long stint on the side-lines. Sokolich-Beatson was first chosen for the Mystics in 2016 and will be back for an eighth year in 2023, keen to re-establish her impressive credentials and all-round playing standards. An outstanding athlete, Sokolich-Beatson is a tireless and effective defender on both wings, has a devastating turn of speed and a nose for intercept opportunities. She has continued to develop strong leadership skills which first caught the attention when she captained the triumphant NZU21 team to the World Youth Cup title in Botswana in 2017 before going on to make her debut for the Silver Ferns in 2018.
