Promising former NZ U21 midcourter Katie Te Ao has been elevated to fully contracted status with the Mystics in 2023 following the withdrawal of Claire O’Brien. The talented Te Ao now gets the opportunity to showcase her credentials. Able to cover all midcourt positions, Te Ao made three appearances for the Magic in 2021 in her capacity as a training partner while also playing for sister team Waikato Bay of Plenty in the National Netball League during 2020 and 2021. She returned home to Auckland in 2022 and played for Counties Manukau in the inaugural Netball NZ Open Championships, where her explosive athleticism and competitive nature shone. Born in New Zealand but raised in Western Australia until Year 12, Te Ao returned to her home town of Tuakau in 2018, completing her secondary school education at St Peter’s, Cambridge in 2019 where her team won the New Zealand Secondary School netball title.
