Retiring in 2023 after a stint with the Leeds Rhinos in the UK Super League, towering shooter Ellie Bird answered an SOS from her former team the Tactix as a temporary injury replacement last season and revelled in her return. Spending five seasons with the red-and-blacks before heading offshore after the 2022 season, Bird excelled in her unexpected comeback, played out the season and has re-signed for 2025. Standing at 1.96m, Bird is a compelling presence under the hoop and returned to home shores with an added sense of composure, confidence and accuracy to leave a strong and influential impression while also reaching the 100-game milestone. Bird posted the second highest number of attempts during the 2024 season while recording the best accuracy at 93.2 percent. With a familiar partner in Te Paea Selby-Rickit and the emergence of rising young shooting sensation Martina Salmon, the Tactix have a formidable shooting line-up for 2025.
