WBOP Magic lose Fraser and Jury for the 2018 season
Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic have confirmed that both Sydney Fraser and Kelly Jury are out for the remainder of the 2018 ANZ Premiership season.
Young mid-courter Sydney Fraser ruptured her right Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) during a pre-season match against Northern Stars on 19 March and underwent reconstructive surgery on 30 April. Fraser is now into her fourth week of rehabilitation, and making good progress on what is expected to be a 9-12 month recovery.
Fraser will miss the 2018 ANZ Premiership season but is looking forward to making a return to the court in 2019.
WBOP Magic and Silver Fern defender Jury dislocated right shoulder during an ANZ Premiership match against Southern Steel on 16 May. Jury underwent an MRI scan which shows a labreal tear within the shoulder post dislocation and is now looking to schedule surgery within the next month to repair the tear.
Jury will miss the rest of the 2018 ANZ Premiership with an estimated 6-9 month rehabilitation and will look to return to the court in 2019.
WBOP Magic Head Coach, Margaret Forsyth, said“While all of us in the Magic camp are extremely disappointed about the season ending injuries sustained by both Sydney (Fraser) and Kelly (Jury), we have rallied and will step up as a team.”
Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty Chief Executive, Rohan West, commented “As an organisation, we have and will continue to provide the very best care and support to both players in order to help them reach their goals of returning to competitive netball as soon as they can.
“Our fantastic supporters will want to wish them both speedy recoveries, but I’m sure they will also rally around Magic for the rest of the season and help the team get through what’s been a tough few months” said West.
