“Our first home game will be huge! The rivalry is going to be very tense and it’s exciting. Hopefully it brings the best out in both teams,” Stars defender Sulu Fitzpatrick said.

“We’re really lucky to represent South Auckland and have their backing. It’s really good for the community – it’s not just about us – it’s about the bigger picture.”

The Stars notched their first win in Round 2 against the Silvermoon Tactix, but Fitzpatrick knows they’ll need to take their game to another level against the Mystics.

“It’s nice to get some points on the board. Our skills definitely still lapsed at times and we had a few mental lapses. But it’s only the beginning of the season so we want to make sure we keep heading in the right direction,” she said.

""The Mystics are going to be tough; they can shoot from anywhere, they’ve got tall timber, they’re strong on defence and have arms everywhere.

“We need to be strong to the ball, attack with purpose and get our hands on anything because they’re a very strong side and can score quickly.”

The Northern Stars host the SKYCITY Mystics on Wednesday 12 April at the Vodafone Event Centre, Manukau. Fans can catch all the action live on SKY Sport 1 and FanPass (NZ) from 7.30pm. International fans (outside of NZ) can watch the action live on the ANZ Premiership Facebook page.
