Purvis ready for Steel encounter
SKYCITY Mystics defender Storm Purvis is looking forward to her first home game in her new team colours on Monday night.
The defender will face her former team-mates, the Ascot Park Southern Steel, at The Trusts Arena, Auckland in Round 2 of the ANZ Premiership – GET TICKETS.
Left to rue missed opportunities following a one goal loss in Round 1, Purvis said they have gone back to the drawing board this week.
“It was a tough game on Sunday. We wanted to win that one, and like anything, we feel like we should have won. We’ve gone back to the drawing board and are now focussed on the Steel,” Purvis said.
Purvis knows all too well how potent the Steel’s attack line can be having spent five seasons in the Deep South.
“The Steel are a team that can score really quickly; they’ve shown that they can score five goals in 20 seconds with Jhaniele the target at the back,” she said.
“We have to make sure we are working hard on slowing down the flow and the ball before it gets to their circle edge. It’ll be tough, but we’re looking at different defensive opportunities.”
With edge-of-your-seat match-ups all across the court, Purvis is hoping fans will turn out in force on Monday night.
“I really hope we have a great crowd – they’re our eighth player on court. It’ll be my first home game at The Trusts Arena, but I know from playing there in the past that the crowd will be very vocal.”
The SKYCITY Mystics will play their first home game in Round 2 of the ANZ Premiership on Monday night against the Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel.
