WBOP Magic captain Casey Kopua acknowledged last week’s win over the Silvermoon Tactix was well timed with the Finals Series looming.

“It was good for the confidence to get a win under you belt and realise you can actually play netball,” she said with a laugh.“It was just to solidify those combinations that we do have and put a good performance out on court.”

The Magic and Te Wananga o Raukawa Pulse are in a race for the two remaining spots in the Finals Series along with the SKYCITY Mystics.

An 11-goal loss to the Mystics last week has seen the Pulse fall out of the top three and captain Katrina Grant said it was important they remembered they were “good netballers”.

“We just need to go back to basics,” she said.“Three weeks ago we were a really really good side and playing really good netball and we’ve somehow gone away from what we do best.”

One goal was the difference between the two when they met in Round 6 with the Magic coming home strongly to snatch victory in the last two minutes.

WHO TO WATCH:

Amorangi Malesala (Magic) – the goal attack has made the most of her appearances in recent weeks and offers something different to Monica Falkner who has been a regular in the circle.Malesala is strong to the ball and not afraid to turn to the post.

Sam Sinclair (Magic) versus Whitney Souness (Pulse) – the dynamic Magic wing defence had one of her best outings when they played the Pulse last time, coming away with five deflections and three intercepts.Souness has been one of the finds for the Pulse but struggled over the long limbs of Anna Harrison last week.

Sheridan Bignall (Pulse) – got 26 minutes on court last week and could be an option with plenty of speed to match Ariana Cable-Dixon at centre.Sara Bayman offers a strong defensive style for the Pulse while Bignall is quick with transition onto attack and delivered some good ball into her shooters.
