MATCH PREVIEW (R10): Steel v Stars

MATCH PREVIEW (R10): Steel v Stars

TEAM NEWS:

The Northern Stars continue to shake up the ANZ Premiership points table with their second upset in as many games and pundits will be watching closely to see if they have what it takes to stop the Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel.

They accounted for both of their netballing neighbours with wins over the SKYCITY Mystics and the WBOP Magic with coach Julie Hoornweg looking to have settled on her line-up.

Stars captain Leana de Bruin admitted she had to “pinch myself” after they knocked over the Magic at home which she put down to “great composure and patience”.

“I think it’s the building of those combinations,” she said of the change in recent weeks.“It takes time and we worked really hard over the pre-season and it’s actually coming together now.”

Shooter Maia Wilson hobbled off court with an injury in the fourth quarter and the Stars will be hoping she is back at full fitness for the trip to Invercargill.

It will have to be something special that the Stars produce if they are to record the biggest boil-over of the season – the Steel showing last week just how good they are with a near faultless performance.

WHO TO WATCH:

Shannon Francois (Steel) – showed plenty of speed through the middle last week and her quick sighting of her shooters in the circle make her a hard player to close down. She put in the most feeds for her side last week.

Emma Iversen (Stars) – the gutsy midcourter has been a standout for the Stars in recent weeks and will face another stern test against Steel captain, Wendy Frew.

Gina Crampton (Steel) versus Fa’amu Ioane (Stars) – Ioane has found her groove in the wing defence bib providing plenty of hustle on the outside of the circle. She picked up three intercepts against the Magic and will have to be at her best to shut Crampton out of a well-oiled Steel frontline.
