Match Preview (R10): Magic v Tactix
TEAM NEWS:
The second half of the ANZ Premiership has seen an improvement from the winless Silvermoon Tactix, but they were again left wondering what could have been after leading the SKYCITY Mystics last week.
Tactix co-captain Anna Thompson said they produced “a good 30 minutes of netball” but was disappointed they didn’t “come out firing” for the second half.
“We expected more for each other – we didn’t deliver which was disappointing.”
Now they find themselves up against a WBOP Magic side desperate to end a three-match losing streak.
The Magic have romped home against the Tactix in their previous two meetings – by 23 and 15 goals – but are licking their wounds after a physical encounter with the Northern Stars.
They found themselves heavily penalised in the surprise defeat to the Stars and lost some structure on attack with star shooter Lenize Potgieter kept quiet.
Any complacency against the bottom-placed Tactix however would be a danger with the red-and-blacks having nothing to lose and plenty of pride on the line.
The Magic are sitting in second place on the points table and will be eyeing up the Finals Series where the number two ranked side hosts an Elimination Final before the June 28 Grand Final.
WHO TO WATCH:
Sam Sinclair (Magic) – the midcourter has swapped between the wing defence bib and centre role seamlessly this season. Can pull off a game-changing intercept or deflections when needed but caught plenty of attention from the umpires last week.
Casey Kopua (Magic) versus Anna Thompson (Tactix) – both players are team stalwarts showing plenty of passion for their clubs over the years.Thompson has worked hard to steady the Tactix shooting circle and could be influential in how it functions against the tough Magic defence.
Erikana Pedersen (Tactix) – the wing attack has had limited court time in recent weeks as she returns from illness.Played 32 minutes for her side last week and showed a great connection with her shooters with 11 goal assists.
