Magic name versatile midcourt for 2021
The Splice Construction Bay of Plenty Magic have confirmed a mix of experience and young talent in their midcourt for the 2021 ANZ Premiership season.
Silver Ferns Development Squad player Sam Winders returns for her seventh season with the Magic and is joined by former Silver Fern Grace Kara, who heads south of Auckland after captaining the Robinhood Northern Stars last season.
The duo are accompanied by some young and exciting talent with Georgie Edgecombe promoted from Magic training partner, along with Asher Grapes who played for the Northern Mystics in 2020.
The Magic midcourt adds to last week’s announcement of a strong defensive end which includes Temalisi Fakahokotau, Erena Mikaere and Georgia Tong.
Head coach Amigene Metcalfe said it was an exciting midcourt combination which would allow the side to mix up combinations and styles.
“Having Sam back is really important for us. She’s the heart of our side and leads by example every single time she steps out on the court,” she said.
“We’re really excited to add such a high calibre player in Grace, who has a tonne of experience and adds a huge work rate, ability to find space and some slick feeding skills.
“Both Asher and Georgie are both hugely talented young players who add another dimension for us, they are both really fast and athletic and it will be exciting to watch them develop even further next season.”
The Splice Construction Magic are set to confirm their shooting end next Friday, completing the 2021 ANZ Premiership roster.
