Frew: you haven’t seen the best of our team yet
Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel captain Wendy Frew has sent an ominous warning to their opposition ahead of Super Sunday, saying we haven’t seen the best of her team yet.
Starting the season with five consecutive wins, the Steel are the only undefeated side left having netted over 70 goals in every game they’ve played.
“We’ve got to be happy with five-from-five, but we know that individually we can play better and as a team step up a lot…I feel like we haven’t seen the best of our team yet,” Frew said.
“It’s a huge weekend for us. We are playing two really strong teams[Mystics and Pulse] – two physical games – we’re looking forward to the challenge and hoping we can put some good performances out there and come away with some more wins if we play to our potential.”
The huge weekend Frew is referring to is a blockbuster Round 6 featuring a Super Sunday with all six teams in action at ILT Stadium Southland – GET TICKETS.

Fans will get to see some of the biggest names in international Netball in action, including Casey Kopua, Leana de Bruin, Maria Tutaia, Katrina Grant, and of course their Steel heroes.
“Everyone’s pumped down here; we’re hoping for a sell-out. To be able to see all six teams in action, what more could you want as a Netball fan!” she said.
“As a young netballer, to come and see all those experienced and international players, it’s great that we’re able to host them - the town is buzzing.”
Super Sunday will also be an opportunity for fans to celebrate Frew’s recent milestone – 150 combined national league matches for the Steel.
“It’s definitely pretty special. It’s something that crept up on me pretty quick to be honest, I only found out about it this week,” Frew said.
“I haven’t been counting but it’s a real honour for me and it’s just so much enjoyment playing with so many wonderful players and best mates.
“One thing I’ve tried to do is never take it for granted. Every year you get selected and get offered a contract it’s a great feeling.
“I’ve loved playing my Netball career down here. I’ve had a lot of support from everyone and a great relationship with the Club. It has certainly been a wonderful experience and a pretty cool feeling.”
