ANZ & Northern Stars help club honour Netball hero
Netball hero, Lea Salt, who volunteers up to 60 hours a week for her Netball Club, was honored by ANZ, the Northern Stars and her club-mates in a surprise ceremony last week.
Ms Salt applied to the ANZ Dream Delivery programme for new uniforms and training gear for Stonefields United Netball Club. On researching her application the Dream Delivery team discovered that Lea was an unsung hero within the Auckland Netball community, deserving of recognition for her contribution to the sport, so an elaborate plan was hatched to get Lea to a central city cafe where a flash-mob style party could take place.
ANZ wanted to help the Club while also honoring one of New Zealand’s unsung grassroots Netball champions so they asked the Northern Stars to help them with the surprise that involved them dressing up as waiters and delivering a huge cake that was then shared among the Club members.
As part of her Dream Delivery Lea was also awarded flowers and return flights for two to attend a Silver Ferns match in Brisbane. On top of this, Stonefields United Netball Club were awarded four new sets ofuniforms and four professional grade training kits.
Ms Salt says she was in shock after the surprise.
“I never expected any of this. I’d do anything for my Stonefields whanau and it’s awesome to know they’re going to be decked out in new gear, and have the training equipment required to improve their skills. I truly believe in the power of Netball, and its ability to bring people together in positive ways. This whole experience is an example of that in action.”
