Experienced Board of New Auckland-based Team Confirmed
The new Auckland-based team to participate in New Zealand’s 2017 Netball Elite League will have plenty of experience to draw on, with the announcement of their new Board.
The Board includes; well-known broadcasting leader Bill Francis, Mark Cameron (CEO, Auckland Cricket), former Silver Fern Julie Coney, and Stephen Smith (Head of Multi-Platform, Maori Television Service).
The exciting blend of corporate, commercial and sports management experience will stand the New Team in good stead heading into their inaugural season in the 2017 Netball Elite League.
Bill Francis will serve as the inaugural Board Chair, bringing a wealth of experience and a strong history of sports governance and working on Boards. Bill is the former Chief Executive of the Radio Broadcasters Association and former General Manager of the Radio Network. He has held directorships, for both New Zealand Cricket (2009-2013) and Auckland Cricket (2005-2009) and is a current Director on the Board of Governors for Radio New Zealand.
Newly-appointed Board Chair Bill Francis says the New Team is starting to take shape thanks to the collaborative approach with Netball Northern.
“We are extremely pleased with the progress that has been made with our Team, in collaboration with Netball Northern,” Francis said.
“We have a number of roles in recruitment, including the General Manager, Operations and Team Manager and we are well on the way to finalising the inaugural coach.”
The Board will work closely with interim project manager, Waimarama Taumaunu to appoint a General Manager, Operations and Team Manager, as well as, finalise the team’s brand and home ahead of the 2017 season.
