In-circle defender Abby Erwood has become a familiar and important cog at the Steel and will be back for a fifth season in 2020. Unfazed when making the elite level for the first time as a teenager, the 1.81m defender, from Dunedin, has continued to build on her game and is an effective and consistent foil in the defensive line. With a strong off-season behind her, the willowy defender produced an impressive 2019 season with her mobility and long reach, impressing enough to earn selection in the 2019-20 Silver Ferns Development squad. A member of the NZU21 team which hoisted the World Youth Cup aloft in 2017, Erwood continues to gain momentum while offering a solid and well-performed option at the defensive end for the Steel.
