MATCH PREVIEW (R6): TACTIX v MAGIC

MATCH PREVIEW (R6): TACTIX v MAGIC

Slow out of the blocks is not an option for the Silvermoon Tactix if they want to get one back over the Waikato-BOP Magic. The hosts found themselves in catch-up mode from the opening minutes and never really threatened the Magic’s hold on the match. Confidence in the forward line has faltered in recent weeks and coach Marianne Delaney-Hoshek needs to find a solution in a quick turnaround for her side. Accuracy from her shooters is also key if they are to reignite some momentum back up the points ladder. Converting from turnover ball is crucial for the Tactix as defenders Temalisi Fakahokotau and Jane Watson continue to pick up plenty of possession. “We need to take care of our ball,” captain Jane Watson said. “We’ve got to get out of that fight back mode and need to be more in control of the game.” Back-to-back wins for the Magic see them starting to fire in all areas of the court. Coach Margaret Forsyth will want to address some of the lulls in the match where they allowed the Tactix back into contention. But she must be pleased with the cohesion up front in recent weeks and accuracy from star shooter Lenize Potgieter.

WHO TO WATCH:

Casey Kopua (Magic) – the player of the match when the two teams met four days ago – proving the former Silver Ferns captain keeps her standards high. She nabbed three rebounds and 10 deflections against the Tactix while also sending three feeds into the shooting circle.

Erikana Pedersen (Tactix) versus Hayley Saunders (Magic) – former team-mates go head-to-head in another big match-up. Pedersen is an important cog in the smooth running of the Tactix attack and was quick to find the circle edge.

Ellie Bird (Tactix) – found good space in the circle with a strong hold but needs to sharpen her radar to help lift her side. No problem in making herself available or with her volume over three quarters of the match on Wednesday.
