A training partner for the past two seasons, impressive teenaged defender Taneisha Fifita has earned her first full contract with the Steel for 2020.
A shooter through much of her school years at Waitaki Girls High, the 1.85m Fifita has been groomed as a defender in recent years, including for the Southern Blast in the Beko League for which she was first selected as a 15-year-old. Fifita played three games for the Steel in 2019 and now gets the opportunity to showcase her skills on a permanent basis. Fifita’s whole family will relocate from Oamaru to Invercargill to support the teen as she takes the leap into semi-professional sport in her first year out of school. Fifita played for the NZSS team in 2018 and 2019.
