Already a White Ferns cricketer, talented midcourter Kate Heffernan is also making her mark in netball.
More is expected with her return for a second year with the Steel in 2020, impressing enough in her first year to earn selection in the 2019-20 Silver Ferns Development squad. The midcourter made a seamless transition to the higher ranks after being called up from the Southern Blast Beko team as an injury replacement in 2018. Standing at 1.81m, Heffernan is tall for a midcourter, her long reach and athletic ability proving a disruptive influence when she played out of wing defence for the Steel. Traditionally a centre, Heffernan had never played wing defence before joining the Steel but took to it like a duck to water. Heffernan is the daughter of former Silver Fern Annette Heffernan.
