Training partner Asher Grapes became a fulltime contracted member of the Northern Mystics a month out from the restart of the ANZ premiership.
The 19-year-old attacker was brought in for shooter Bailey Mes who was ruled out of the season with injury. Grapes, who hails from Hawke’s Bay, was a Hamilton U19 representative in 2019 while also being chosen as a Pathway to Podium athlete. She played a full part in the Mystics pre-season preparations as well as their opening 2020 match against the Northern Stars before the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Capable of playing goal attack, wing attack and centre, Grapes will form part of a teenaged shooting trio in the Mystics circle alongside Grace Nweke and Saviour Tui.
