Team: view player profiles

Game changer: Anna Harrison

Arguably, one of world Netball’s most versatile defenders, Anna Harrison has the ability to turn the game on its head. Whether she is terrorising opposition goal shooters or sticking like glue to a speedy wing attack – Anna Harrison can do it all. Her long reach causes headaches for the opposition, coupled with her tactical nous and awareness; she could be the game changer for the SKYCITY Mystics in 2017.

Match winner: Maria Tutaia

Maria Tutaia has won more than for a few games for her teams throughout her career. An epic Commonwealth Games Gold Medal Match in 2010 is one that still springs to mind. Fast forward to 2017 and the Mystics co-captain will be hoping her side can get the job done in regular time more often than not. But rest assured, this towering shooter with the silky smooth skills, the confidence to turn and shoot and ability to shoot from all corners of the circle will be ready for the challenge.

Key signing: Bailey Mes

Bailey Mes makes a return to Auckland and the Mystics in 2017 to link up with Silver Ferns shooting partner, Maria Tutaia. The duo will form one of the most formidable shooting combinations in the league. Mes brings to the Mystics superior athletic ability, a calmness under pressure and an ability to play both shooting roles.

What the coach says:

“We are hoping to play lots of exciting Netball. The pre-season was about looking to experiment with different combinations and styles, and we were able to do that,” coach Helene Wilson said.

“Our expectations are to get out on court and perform at our best every single game. We’re looking to play open Netball, with lots of flair and using the space on court wisely.”

First Match:

The SKYCITY Mystics will take on the Central Pulse in their first match of the ANZ Premiership as part of a blockbuster Super Sunday featuring all six teams at Claudelands Arena, Hamilton, on March 26 – GET TICKETS.
