MATCH PREVIEW (ROUND 9): TACTIX v MYSTICS

MATCH PREVIEW (ROUND 9): TACTIX v MYSTICS

TEAM NEWS:

Silvermoon Tactix on-court captain Jane Watson wants her side to “keep building” after they were able to snap a five-game losing streak last week. She was pleased to see their hard work rewarded with ANZ Premiership points after a few narrow defeats, but now wants more from the Tactix when they meet the SKYCITY Mystics.

“I think we need a little bit more consistency throughout the whole game and we’ve just got to keep building.”

She praised her attacking end for holding their nerve went the pressure went on last week but could probably accept a few bouquets herself after the defender’s heroics in the dying minutes, against the Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel, helped her side win the game.

The Mystics and Tactix are one apiece after two outings this season with the northern side on top the last time they met in Round 4. The Mystics steady climb up the points table hit the skids last week and they will be out for redemption. Keep a close eye on the long limbs of both Temalisi Fakahokotau (Tactix) and Anna Harrison (Mystics) as they continue their battle for bragging rights in the deflection count this season with the duo well ahead of the chasing pack – Fakahokotau on 70 and Harrison with 59.

WHO TO WATCH:

Ellie Bird (Tactix) – the Tactix shooter has stood strong the last couple of games with an improved shooting accuracy and more strength in her take of the ball. Will be looking to improve on her 75% shooting return the last time she took on the Mystics.

Bailey Mes (Mystics) versus Temalisi Fakahokotau (Tactix) – another great battle between Silver Fern team-mates. Fakahokotau is at the top of the league’s defensive statistics (rebounds, deflections and intercepts) and will be a stern test for Mes who is shooting at 79% accuracy so far this season.

Storm Purvis (Mystics) – the former Silver Fern who has been benched for most of this season as she continues to comeback from injury. Got court time against the Magic last week and will be keen to build on that.
